DYiD.II

May 29, 2008

So I decided to fix this site a little. I thought the former design looked pretty bland, so I thought to find a theme that would allow me to customize my header. I used some graphics and textures that I found previously in Aethereality Gallery to make my banner and ta-da! I had my design! :D

Unfortunately, I also had the problem of thinking up a site name. I am terrible at making up befitting names in short notice. Because I’m indecisive, I was afraid I’d get stuck with the site name “Raelith’s Weblog.” (There’s nothing wrong with using that. My OC side just doesn’t want to use a default setting–in this case, the site name.) So, there I was by my brother’s side, alternating between pestering him with questions and conversations and just looking at his game, when suddenly the phrase “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t” came to me. I was thinking of asking him some help with school fees to ease the burden for my parents a little. I thought that if I asked and he said no, it would be like as if I didn’t ask him anyway. …Okay, that may be a little on the extreme side but you get my point.

Anyway, I thought, “Ah, WTH. Since I’m most likely not going to come up with a decent name anytime soon, I should just use that. (And even though it’s only been 5 minutes, I think I’m pretty attached to it already.)” But then I noticed that it was just too long. So I made it into an acronym, and it turned out “DYIDDYID” and that looked really, well, lame. So I decided to make it into a shortcut (since it repeats the first four letters twice), and into something like, “DYID2x” or “DYID.2″. I finally decided on “DYiD.II”. I just noticed that it looks like some sort of codec (Like Xvid or DivX).

… I know it looks weird, but please give it a chance, ne?

Clues for the clueless:
1) Xvid and DivX are video codecs (coder/encoder). Xvid is a free software distributed under terms of GNU General Public License while DivX is propriety software developed by DivX, Inc. For more information, visit their official sites: Xvid and DivX.
